Who is Hannah of the Bible?
Bible Reference: 1 Samuel 1-2:11
Discussion:
What a wonderful woman of God! Hannah was the wife of Elkanah, and she was unable to have children. Year after year Hannah went to the temple in Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to God. But as the years passed, she became very discouraged because she still had no children. Even her family provoked her over being barren. Then, one year she made a vow to the Lord that if He gave her a son, she would give her son back to Him.
Then it happened! She had a son and named him Samuel which means “God has heard.” Her continued prayers had been answered. Through all the sorrow of being childless, Hannah did not give up praying, and when God answered her prayer, she was faithful to live up to her promise and gave her only son to Eli, the priest, so Samuel could serve God in the temple.
Practical Lesson:
Often, we are faced with problems or concerns in our lives where there seems to be no answers. We fret and become discouraged until we have the good sense to turn to God in prayer. Does that mean as soon as we get off our knees and open our eyes, we will have an answer? No! It could happen but God does not always bail us out of trouble immediately. If we continue to steadfastly pray and when the time is right for God, He is faithful to answer our prayers. Continually pray to the Lord expecting an answer as did Hannah. The apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17, “pray without ceasing.”
