It’s not a joke.  Sunday School (Small Groups) is critical to the life & fellowship of a church, and it is the place where believers and seekers connect to God and one another in Bible study, fellowship, prayer support, and ministry.  Small groups are key to the health of PVN, and I believe every Christian and church member ought to be a faithful part of one.

Everybody has struggles.  Everyone has difficulties.  The question is not, “Will they come?” but “How will we overcome them?”  Being regularly in a small group, like a Sunday School class on Sunday morning or a small group on Sunday night at PVN, is vital to having a strong foundation to withstand the winds and storms of this life.  It is a great thing to have a group of people loving Jesus, studying His word, and committed to praying and being there for you and your family.  That is what Sunday School and small groups are all about.  If you are not part of one, will you commit yourself and your family to coming on Sundays to PVN and joining in?  If you are part of a class but often find yourself missing Sunday School for one reason or another, will you consider committing your family to greater faithfulness in Bible study attendance, and the giving of your time, talents, and tithes…  To God be the glory, great things He has done AND great things He is doing at PVN.

PVN, A Kingdom Church?

A Kingdom Church BELIEVES in Jesus the Christ as the Divine Son of God, who is our only hope of salvation and heaven.  He alone gave Himself as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.  He alone is worthy.  What a wonderful Saviour!

A Kingdom Church is COMMITTED to Jesus as person and cherishes a glorious relationship with Him.  A Kingdom Church willingly SERVES the Master as a living sacrifice to Him, and EDIFIES His Holy Church, which means the use of skills, talents and abilities to His honor.

With an outstanding year behind us, I am confident that you will want to meet the challenge of a new year believing in, committed to and serving the Saviour.

In February we will re-enroll GROW OUTREACH, with training on Sunday, March 4.  We want to see souls saved, lives changed, and we will save every Sunday for the great things for our soul.

Aren’t you glad Jesus didn’t quit when we needed a Savior?  I am so thankful He didn’t hold back, sleep in, or hide from His responsibility when it came to the cross.  Jesus knew it would take His all, even His life’s blood, and He did what it took when we needed Him the most.

Jesus is calling us as His followers to step up and be faithful.  The New Year is a perfect time to commit – or recommit- ourselves to living for Christ and growing in spiritual maturity.  If Jesus is on the inside, He is going to show up on the outside.  People with Jesus in their heart are going to show His love and power for living by how they talk, how they act, how they worship, and how they live.  As your pastor and friend, I want to challenge everyone to let the light of Jesus shine brighter than ever in 2012.  Let other people see how much we love Jesus and appreciate the cross by the way we spend our time, our talents, and our resources to His glory and the furthering of His kingdom in Floyd County and beyond.

I am challenging myself in the New Year to be more in the Word and more diligent in prayer.  May we all commit ourselves to a consistent daily time with the Lord.  What is God calling you to do as part of your

New Year’s resolutions?

Enjoying His Presence

Now that we have celebrated the coming of Jesus, in an event we call Christmas, we are in a position to ENJOY HIS PRESENCE in our hearts and lives as individuals, families, and as a church family in the new year. I am proud to be in a church that ENJOYS HIS PRESENCE!

The Psalm writer declared in Psalm 16:11, “In His Presence there is fullness of joy.” Jesus stated in John 15:11, “I have spoken to you that my joy may remain in you and that your joy may be full.” The chorus writer says, “If you want joy, real joy, let Jesus come into your heart.”

With all due respect, reverence and adoration for God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, He makes it clear that a relationship with Him is joy filled. When we save our Sundays for the great things for the soul, we are likely to experience the fullness of the joy of the Lord. With gifts such as mercy, life, love, forgiveness, salvation and peace, we have every reason to be joyful.

What a joy for me to serve the Lord with you for these ten years. Thank you for the gifts. Have a joy-filled New Year.
